John Krasinski’s new film “IF,” starring Ryan Reynolds, has made a strong debut at the global box office, earning $55 million in its opening weekend.
The film, which features an ensemble cast including Cailey Fleming, Steve Carell, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, brought in $35 million from North American theaters and an additional $20 million internationally.
Paramount Pictures released the movie in over 4,000 locations in North America alone.
Despite mixed reviews, with a “rotten” 49% on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences have responded positively, giving the film a solid A CinemaScore. The movie’s unique premise and family-friendly appeal have made it a standout in the early summer box office season.
“IF” is an original idea by Krasinski, who wrote, directed, and co-starred in the film. It tells a heartwarming story involving imaginary friends and has been praised for its creativity and emotional depth.
The film’s success is a positive indicator of the summer movie season.
“The studio considers it a successful debut and is optimistic about its longevity as summer begins for school-age children,” said a studio representative.
“Kids are out of school starting this coming week, and I couldn’t think of a better film to be in the marketplace than this one: It’s new, it’s fresh, it’s original, and it’s such a heartwarming film.”
